One of President Donald Trump's former lawyers may have just lit the fuse on the bomb that finally blows up Trump world, one column is arguing. Alina Habba, who once defended Trump during his New York civil trial and then briefly served as an acting U.S. Attorney in his second administration, has accused Kennedy Center President Richard Grenell of pocketing more than $6 million that was donated by her new husband, Turkish billionaire Turhan Mildon, for the art center's renovation. The accusation has become one of the most heated MAGA fights within Trump world, and is threatening to "take on a life of its own" that could eventually expose all of the corruption at the center of Trump's orbit, argued Josh Marshall, founder and editor-in-chief of Turning Points Memo, in a new column. "This seems like an astonishingly silly move," Marshall wrote. "If you’re going to level an accusation like this against a top Trump loyalist, I don’t think they’re going to let you be cute about holding some information back. And let’s be real: it’s the White House!"Marshall pointed out that Grenell is not likely to back down from a fight either. "What we have here is a good example of the kind of unrestrained and egregious corruption we’ve known is happening basically everywhere in the Trump world," he wrote. The column also says all of this stems from the "bubble of impunity" Trump created as president. "As President, in the perverse system Trump has created, his actions as President create a bubble of impunity that follows him everywhere and in everything he does," Marshall wrote. "Perhaps there was some reason driving Habba to take these charges to the White House that truly gave her no choice," Marshall added. "But it sounds more like it was a grudge match she was hungry to escalate without realizing it might spin out of her control and take on a life of its own."
